This is Ryan here! Below are some words of wisdom from my father.
My Vote
This is not a defense of Republicans. They had an opportunity to build on the Reagan revolution that gave us 1) pride in American exceptionalism, 2) the belief in the limitless potential of the free market and the private sector over that of a managed economy and big government, 3) a return to elevating personal responsibility over playing the blame game, 4) a reiteration that innocent life was sacred and needed protection, 5) and an understanding that the greatest threat to peace was weakness. Yet the GOP proved to be spineless, rudderless, clueless, and valueless.
Here are the reasons why I believe that the Democratic Party is morally bankrupt.
1: Big Government
“One of our great men of history said that if government is big enough to provide it for you it is big enough to take it away. Another said that those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. There are ups and downs in this world. The ups are there to be enjoyed to their fullest. The downs demand courage, fortitude, and strength. Those who face such time will end up with these qualities. A society that cheers its citizens toward perseverance in the face of affliction, that focuses on opportunity rather than assistance, that allows the un-managed brain power of innumerable individual decisions emanating from millions of its citizens to deal with (always temporary) set backs will grow stronger with each downturn. A society the creates a central institution to manage every ill in life will end up incapable of standing against even the slightest breeze of difficulty and will end up propping up institutions that should have been allowed to die a natural death. I am thinking of those states that have outlawed self serve gas to protect the very upwardly mobile jobs of service station attendants and currently of the government pledging to spare no expense to support failing financial institutions that bought into the Democratic idea of easy credit, i.e. equal fairness in lending legislation and Freddie Mae/Mac.
“If it runs, tax it. If it keeps running, regulate it. If it fails to run, subsidize it. “Ronald Reagan
2: Abortion
The Democratic Party is the single greatest proponent of this greatest of all holocausts. Their foundational, bed-rock platform is that mothers have total authority over the life or death of their unborn children…period. This authority trumps all other interests. The party has fought hard against all parental notification laws in the case of teenage mothers, they have fought hard against laws that sought to revive infants after the abortions (the only surgery designed to kill) that failed,, they have fought hard to against laws that forbid the delivery of a child feet first up to the head then scrambling the brains to bring about death.
Many of these battles have been fought successfully on behalf of the unborn in the legislators against the wishes of the Democratic party, but lost in the courts where judges ignore the written ” right to life” clause in the Declaration of Independence siding with the unwritten perceived unconstitutional right to kill. This battle has been further compromised by the Democratic Party’s insistence that all federal judges declare their allegiance to Roe v. Wade before confirmation is issued.
The argument continues to be that we do not know when life begins. This is absurd!! If I shoot a bullet at some movement in a bush and end up killing an individual, does my plea of ignorance as to whether there was life in that bush justify my actions? Did I have the right to shoot and not the responsibility to be 100% sure that a human being was not in the bush?
Abortion (along with its sister act euthanasia) is the natural result of a society that values rights over right, comfort over courage, license over responsibility and it is the Democratic Party with its allegiances to the trial lawyers, the feminists, and the ACLU that has caused the sacrificial slaughter of 120 million children on the alter of “my rights”.
If it were not for the Democratic Party abortion would have long been removed from the tyranny of the courts and placed back in the hands of elected representatives where debate would have had the opportunity to rule the day.
A society that does not hold innocent life to be sacred in and of itself, that qualifies life as protected only if it is useful, of a certain quality, at a certain stage of development, or is not threatening to the “health and welfare” of the other members is a society doomed to suffer in that Brave New World”.
3: Victimhood
No political party has so shamelessly capitalized on the natural state of affairs where there will always be those who excel and those who do not as the Democrats. The nauseating dribble that constantly spews from speeches and sound bites is that if you are uncomfortable in any way what-so-ever then it has to be someone else’s fault (corporations, the rich, the Republicans) and this sorry state of affairs can only be remedied by some law extracting money from the guilty parties and using that to ensure the rights to which you have so heartlessly been denied. Your only hope for care free living is the Democratic Party. One’s ultimate right is absolute comfort and there is no ill that cannot be remedied by tax, law, subsidy, or regulation. Why strive when “the Man” will hold me down? What I need is the government to take from “the Man” and give to me. Vote Democrat.
4: Class Envy
I fear that the Democrats have succeeded in persuading the vast majority of Americans that there is a certain level of success (over $250,000 a year in this election cycle) have done so on the backs of us peons, and deserve to enjoy only that level of success that elected official deem “fair”. “Excessive executive pay” is the battle cry often heard these days. What business is it of mine how much pay a board of directors elected by the owners of the company who have risk their money choose to pay its executives. Who decides the level at which income becomes obscene and what will that level be now or in the future. There is something called the alternative fair minimum tax (or something to that affect) where our elected official decided that a certain level of income is just too much and must be redistributed. Well, during the last two decades this greatest nation on earth and its great economic system has generated the greatest prosperity that man has ever known. Most of us are now “rich” and subject to that tax. Instead of doing away with it all together Congress must annually re-visit this tax and adjust its target upwards. They decide how much income you deserve.
5: Free Lunch
Jobs, education, and healthcare. I get so sick of hearing these words. What the Democrats tell us is that they want the government to take (tax) money away from the private sector, give it to various groups of bureaucrats who will take most of it to pay themselves and provide various perks (such as govt. vehicles and plush offices) as they set out to make sure the nation’s supply of job’s, education, and healthcare is evenly distributed to all. In other words, it will be the people who operate the department of motor vehicles or the veterans or county hospitals responsibility to make sure you get your fair share of job’s, education, and healthcare. Think on that long and hard.
There is no more efficient economic system than the free market. The economic afflictions we are suffering now are not the result of a lack of regulation. They are the result of the Democrats over-riding free market principles in the housing market by setting up a home financing system that ignored sound lending practices threatening lenders with reprisals who tried to abide by sound principles. The term “red lining” became a big Democrat talking point. And we are fixing to give responsibility of fixing the problem to the same people who caused it.
The problem with education and healthcare is that both have been removed from free market forces. Public schools are a monopoly with no threat of competition. The consumers of secondary education and healthcare have for all practical purposes been removed from the pains of the point of sale discipline by the third party payer system. Both services are enjoyed immediately and paid for at a later date by the student or someone else (loans, grants, and scholarships in the case of education; insurance in the case of healthcare). No one shops value for medical care.
6: Risk Free Existence
The trial lawyers own the Democrats. There is absolutely no area of life, not even in one’s own home, where the threat of being sued for any and every perceived bump in life has not wrapped its life squeezing tentacles around. We all pay the price in increased costs and inconvenience. Where are the public diving boards, where are the sew saws, what happened to dodge ball and tag in schools. We have chased (no pun intended) entire industries out of the country on this threat alone. Trial lawyers do not create or build anything. They do not innovate. They do not set in motion a means by which capital is transformed into a wealth stream that benefits thousands for decades. No, trial lawyers find ways to extract the wealth of those who have taken the risk and made the sacrifices necessary to be successful and generate economic growth. They do this by (sound familiar) creating “victims” and fabricating villains. Without the sweat of others, trial lawyers could not survive. And Democrats have been instrumental in insuring that this great piggy bank—the pockets of American institutions—continues to be at the beck and call of these leeches.
7: Teacher’s Union
No group is more detrimental to the progress of this nation than the NEA and its minions because it has been the greatest opponent of competition (which creates innovation, which creates winners and losers (those who produce the lowest quality product or service) and therefore the greatest roadblock to educational excellence. The political party that screams the loudest about how it is for the down trodden has sentenced millions of this nation's children to sub-mediocre education by its allegiance to this dangerous group.
“Those who can do, those who can’t teach, those who can’t teach, teach teaching”. What is being taught in schools? The curriculum that is produced by the education establishment elevates tolerance, conflict management, values clarification, and internationalism above the practical lessons of reading, writing, math, and science. Big education (if folks can say big oil, I can say big education) has taken upon itself to be the arbiter of values like big government takes on itself to be the arbiter of prosperity.
7: Anti-corporation
“The military industrial complex” (yes a term coined by a Republican President—again, I do not defend the GOP) has become the epitome of describing some fiend so evil, so sly, so pervasive that we all stand on the brink of being swallowed up by its drooling, blood stained maw at any moment. Oh, who will rescue us from this evil? Yes, it is the Democrats. What can create more fervor and excitement at a Democratic rally than railing against the free market systems most successful players—Big Oil, Wal-Mart, Big Drug, Big Insurance? These corporations make too much money. Well, they also employ millions of Americans who are encouraged to become a part of our capitalist system by becoming “big” owners. Millions of common folk have risen into the ranks of the wealthy (ask the Democrats what this means first) because they were given a chance to become corporate owners or because they were able to take advantage of entry level employment with the chance to move to the top. Anyone can own any part of any publically traded corporation and I believe 70% of us do in some form or fashion. So when the Democrats hurl invective at corporations calling them “big” are they saying that we would all be better off if they would just shrink. Better sell first.
8: Energy
Gas prices depend on the activities of thousands of individual worldwide investors who bid on shipments of barrels of oil in the future. There is no one person, group of persons, or group of companies that control prices. American oil companies are dwarfed by the nationalized oil producers of Russia, Mexico, Venezuela, and the Middle East and have no more say in global oil markets than mom and pop dime store can determine the global price of toilet paper. Investors base their purchase bids on supply, demand, and geo-political stability. Right now all indicators point toward low supply, high demand and high instability. The only way to lower oil prices is to manipulate one or all of the three areas listed above. Because of the environmentalist control of our nation’s government we have not built a single refinery in 30 years, we are not allowed to explore and drill for oil and gas in new areas of the US. China has hooked up with Cuba and is drilling off the coast of Florida, Russia is reducing the amount of money it extracts from its nationalized oil company to allow it to invest in more exploration and drilling. Europe is increasing their nuclear energy facilities and their exploration in the North Sea. What do we do? We haul oil executives and futures traders before congress and ask them stupid questions concerning the price of oil that can be explained with simple economics, we threaten to tax their profits because we feel that they should not be making so much money, and we take food (corn) and try to make fuel out of it. Wow, world markets look out. Not long ago Congress held hearings threatening to stick it to the fat cats. That sure affected supply and demand. By the way, instead of earning 6 cents on the dollar, producers are now earning 10 cents on the dollar…a 40% increase in profits. Those 4 cents when multiplied by the shear volume of business an oil company deals in will be a very large number. This is simple math. If you want gas prices to come down tell the idiots in Washington that you could care less about the Snail Darter, elk, the seal the…whatever, and that you want to be drilling everywhere there is oil and gas. Tell them that every city should have an oil refinery…the environmentalist be damned.
We live in a capitalist system where the goal is to make a profit. When one group assumes the power to determine that certain profits and levels of profits are wrong then they will soon take it upon themselves to investigate all profits…all income, yours included. By the way, again, EXXON is publically trade. You are free to purchase shares in this company and enjoy some of its profits.
In July of O8 gas was over $4.00 per gallon. Now, October 08, gas is under $3.00. Supply is up due to decrease in demand and the perception of the traders is that the American people are pushing (against every effort by the Democrats) for more drilling. Amazing how the free markets work.

Amen! That is why I am voting for Obama...he has put a soul behind the previously hollow attempts of Democrats. Government needs to step up because the church has failed to step up and meet the demands of its neighbors...let's hope that all of us can grab onto the heart of the church that Obama is trying to instill into the government so that we can look forward to a diminishing role of government in the near future!
